When waiting at the bus stop, people can get the bus arrival time immediately. Smart cards and card readers make it easy for passengers to enjoy the convenience of paying for fares in an efficient way. When the bus approaches the next stop, display panels on buses show the information of upcoming destination. While commuting, passengers can also get free WiFi to make the most of their time. For the sake of the passengers, the buses are under surveillance to ensure passengers’ safety at all times. All these things work smartly is due to data digitization and IoT.

Enhanced Efficiency & Better Passenger Service
Challenge

A bus system in the Middle East carries thousands of passengers every day. To keep competitive, the bus company adopts IoT technology for a better passenger service. In the project, the bus system consists of a variety kinds of systems installed, such as video surveillance system, passenger information system and fare collection system. All these systems amass millions of different kinds of data. Therefore, the implementation of IoT with Antaira's product solution becomes crucial for the bus company to enhance the efficiency for a smart and better passenger service.

Solutions

More than 1,000 units of Antaira E-Mark Ethernet Switches, LNX-800A-E, and In-Vehicle Cellular Gateways, ARS-7334-AC-LTE-E-T, both certified with E-Mark were recommended to satisfy the

project requirements. These two models passed multiple rigorous tests required by E-Mark, including EMI , EMS and EMC testing, which are proven to be able to guarantee passengers’ safety and being eco-friendly.

On each bus, one LNX-800A-E acts as the node of Ethernet network, connecting with multiple devices, including CCTV cameras, NVR and fare collection system. On the other hand, to comply with serial interface that the LED display panel only supports, ARS-7334-AC-LTE-E-T is used to connect the device with its RS-232 serial port.

In order to enhance the efficiency of service, the bus provides passengers with real-time information, such as the upcoming destination, the bus arrival time and its position. Hence, the use of 4G LTE wireless network for greater mobility and GPS is inevitable. During the bus operation, ARS-7334-AC-LTE-E-T, via 4G LTE technology, serves to deliver all data wirelessly, including the data collected by LNX-800A-E, to the remote control center.

Meanwhile, ARS-7334-AC-LTE-E-T reports its position to the control center with the support of GPS function anytime and anywhere.

Considering a more flexible and economical way, the bus company also chooses to have it send the data to the control center via WiFi when the bus is back to the depot, where the control center

is located.

In addition, in order to offer passenger free WiFi as a value-added service, ARS-7334-AC-LTE-E-T also makes it to share WiFi via its cellular function.
